Lone Pine Justice as a young bull
Lone Pine Justice (P)
We purchased Lone Pine Justice privately from Chas and Vie Hawkins as a young bull in 2003. Chas had a very high opinion of him and thought him a fine young sire capable of strong herd improvement.
The Lone Pine stud was one of Australia's oldest Shorthorn studs. It was started in 1874 by Donald McLarty and had a fine reputation for breeding quality cattle. In 2010 the Stud was sold to Gerald and Lynden Spry who welcomed the chance to secure the Lone Pine bloodlines.
Justice’s maternal line came from one of the Lone Pine top families, Cherry, while his sire represented the Roany line.
Justice possessed excellent structure and temperament with a wonderful top line and great width through the pins. A lovely red roan in colour, Justice threw richly coloured progeny with his own easy fleshing ability and moderate frame.
His moderate birth weight meant that he could be used on both heifers and cows. With the performance recording of 126 progeny from the Toogimbie herd, Justice is now a trait leader for milk and his 400 day and carcase weight figures have increased by around 60% since purchase.
Justice was our leading sire during five years of the most severe drought on record. He possessed wonderful fertility in very trying circumstances. At one stage he was joined to sixty cows for six weeks; only two tested empty. We still have many of the Justice daughters and granddaughters in our herd. They continue to display their strong maternal characteristics and rear excellent progeny.
