We obtained TLC Red Ready as a young bull calf when we purchased the TLC stud from Cye Travers in 2011. He is a fine looking dark roan bull and has achieved excellent pregnancy rates in all his joinings.
Red Ready provides an interesting combination of bloodlines. His dam, TLC Prospect Rattlers Rose Z002 (P) (ET), was by Eden Park Red Rattler who sold in 2001 for $60,000. Rattlers Rose was out of the legendary Sprys Legends Lily W009, dam of 57 progeny to date including the top selling heifer Lachan Miss Blaster and the successful sire, Sprys TLC Dynamite B174 (P) (ET). The latter produced top progeny for Sprys and Kooroon. A beautiful roan, Rattlers Rose was one of the best looking cows in the herd and was always in wonderful knick while rearing a top calf.
Red Ready also has a strong male line. His sire, TLC True Red (P) (AI), was used successfully in the Shorthorn assessment program, Durham. He combines a fine structure with moderate birth weight, excellent calving ease (direct) and short gestation figures. True Red is by the JR Legend son, Sprys True Blue, who sold for $55,000 at 12 months of age, the second highest price paid for a shorthorn in Australia. SPJ Lily Z09, True Red's dam, is by the Western Australian sire, Narralda Ledger W48, who has been a most successful sire. His son, Narralda Aladdin A048, was purchased by the Manchees of Yamburgan for $38,500, an all breeds record price for Western Australia.
We entered one of Red Ready's steers in the 2014 Beef Spectacular Feedlot Trial. He finished with excellent results, grading Riverine Premium, the top Teys brand, achieving full marks for marbling and showing a weight gain of 2.40 kgs a day.
